Hi,

I'm Steven Purcell

and I’m standing to be your local representative in Division 2 for the Ipswich City Council.

I’m the general manager of Goodna Street Life, and local small business owner, with a background in science, business and finance.

For the past 8 years, I've been committed to supporting the homeless and vulnerable in our community, and have fought to improve local access to housing, mental health, domestic violence and AOD recovery services, as well as providing affordable food to our community.

My passion for helping others is what drives me, which is why I am running to be one of your local reprentatives for division 2 in Ipswich City Council. I'm proudly running with my long term colleague, and dear friend, Helen Youngberry, who is the president of Goodna Street Life, and well known for her hard work and dedication to our community.

I believe in evidence based policies designed to meet the needs of the community today, and create opportunities for tomorrow, delivered in consultation and cooperation with residents and stakeholders.

Hi,

I'm Helen Youngberry

and I’m standing to be your local representative in Division 2 for the Ipswich City Council.

I would like to introduce myself for any that do not know who I am.

My name is Helen Youngberry, I was born in Paramatta NSW and I am currently 60 yo. I moved to Qld in 1994 with my family and settled in Goodna.

9 years ago I noticed a need to help our homeless and decided to build Goodna Street Life and then Helens Haven, a local support service for the homeless and vulnerable in our community.

These past years have only served to give me more determination to go further, and help those that are are in need, or need a voice, and to create change within our community and leave a better life for my family and yours.

This beautiful town of ours has a need to be cherished, and while there are many larger issues that need attention, I have noticed over the years that everyone forgets about the smaller everyday problems that effect all of us.

We work for our community everyday to overcome these issues, and we hope to earn your vote, so we can all work together for our great city, and get the best outcomes, for all of us.

GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT THAT MAKES A POSITIVE SOCIAL IMPACT

3. Community Engagement

  • Establish and attend regular community meetings and forums to understand the concerns and aspirations of residents.
  • Promote transparency and accountability in local government through open communication channels.
  • Encourage community-driven initiatives and involve residents in decision-making processes.
BUILDING AND PLANNING FOR OUR CHANGING CLIMATE

4. Environment and Sustainability

We have witnessed some tremendous growth in our region, which has delivered some fantastic services and opportunties to local residents, as well as highlighting the need for greater community engagement, protection for our environment and green spaces, and the need to better manage the impacts of floods.

If elected, I will fight for sustainable development which maximises opportunities, preserves the character and charm of our suburbs, and protects our precious green spaces and wildlife.

Our changing climate requires strong leadership and vision to build resilient, modern and future proof communities, focused on the health, safety and happiness of local residents.

  • Develop and support initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability within Ipswich.
  • Advocate for policies that promote green spaces, renewable energy, and waste reduction and recyclying.
  • Address concerns related to local air and water quality, ensuring a healthy living environment.
  • Review of flood impacts from recent developments in our region on our waterways, and improve flood protection infrastructure.
SUPPORTING THE ECONOMIC GROWTH OF OUR CITY

5. Economic Development

  • Support local businesses by creating a conducive environment for growth and innovation.
  • Work towards attracting new businesses to stimulate economic development and job creation.
  • Collaborate with local organizations to identify and address the needs of the business community.
PROVIDING LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH

6. Education and Youth Services

  • Work with state government, local schools, educational institutions and sporting and community groups to improve educational outcomes for young residents.
  • Advocate for increased youth services and recreational facilities to engage and empower the youth, and ensure every child has the opportunity participate.
  • Support programs that enhance skill development and provide opportunities for young people.
PROTECTING OUR COMMUNITY

7. Public Safety

Our community knows too well the impact of youth crime and violence. The Red Suburbs crime map of Australia rates our postcode as very unsafe.

In our roles with Goodna Street Life we work with offenders, local police, probation, youth justice and child safety, and neighbourhood watches, and we understand the complexity and weaknesses in our system.

To improve safety in our region we would like to see greater state funding for our local police, and youth support services, and community led projects to improve outcomes for at risk youth.

  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to address crime and safety concerns within Division 2.
  • Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation programs to reduce the harm caused by drugs in our community.
  • Establish Youth Support programs to reach at risk kids.
  • Promote neighborhood watch programs and community partnerships for a safer environment.
CONTINUE OUR FIGHT TO END HOMELESSNESS

8. Local Housing and Homelessness Action Plan

  • Develop and implement strategies to address the housing and homelessness crisis in Ipswich.
  • Advocate for policies that support housing diversity and accessibility for all income levels.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to find innovative solutions to housing challenges.
